worldmotorsportnews.com expresses its sadness and the lost of one of Australia's finest motorsport legends Peter Brock. "Today we lost an icon of Australian Motorsport Peter Brock, Peter Perfect named for his ability to focus his love of motorsport and turn it into a professional passion to entertain his followers and gain the respect of his competitors. We, Australian's and those around the globe would agree that the Bathurst round of the touring cars was owned and dominated for over three decades by Peter Brock. This great race will always be Brocky's Hill. Peter passed away doing what he loved best. Thank you Peter Brock for entertaining us, supporting others through charity and giving us something to tell our future generations about, a legend, a friend to many". Michael (editor)

ALLAN MOFFAT REACTION TO THE DEATH OF PETER BROCK
I can only say that I am shocked beyond belief by the news that my former great opponent and good friend, Peter Brock, has been killed during an event in Western Australia today.
He was doing what he loved to do but even so, it beggars belief that one week can claim two great Australian icons - both too young.
My thoughts and sincere condolences go to his loved ones.
Allan Moffat.
TOLL HSV DEALER TEAM REACTION TO THE DEATH OF PETER BROCK
VALE PETER BROCK
Toll HSV Dealer Team expresses its shock at the untimely passing of Peter Brock. It passes on its sympathy to his family and friends.
Following are statements by leading V8 Supercar drivers Garth Tander and Rick Kelly:
Garth Tander:
“That’s incredibly sad news from Perth today. It is an absolute tragedy. It is almost surreal. For race drivers like me, it is a bit like when we woke up to hear that Ayrton Senna had died. It is almost like we didn’t believe it. It’s very, very difficult to get your head around.
“I was part of the Holden Bathurst 24-hour team with Peter, and have done quite a bit of work with him at various Holden functions and driver training days, and so I knew him quite well.
“He leaves a tremendous legacy. He was a massive campaigner for driver education, especially the value of early driver education. Ironically, one of his main messages was that if young drivers felt the need to drive fast, then to take up motorsport – don’t do it on the street.
“He was very passionate about that. His message really struck a chord with me, and I am pretty passionate about road safety as well.
“It is going to be quite strange going to Bathurst and not having the King of the Mountain there in some form or another. One thing that was always great about Peter was that he would always come and see you on the grid before the start of the race and wish you well and pass on a bit of advice. It is going to be very strange to not have that on the Sunday morning.”
Rick Kelly:
“I am still in shock. Brockie has been there all my life as someone we have looked up to. He made motor racing in Australia what it is today. He has always been there to support me personally, as well as (brother) Todd, in our endeavours to become someone in motorsport.
"At the various sponsor functions and things we have done, Brockie, even though his time was always limited, always made the time to try and support the younger people coming through.
“So, he is going to be missed dearly by us all. As I said, at the moment we are all still in shock.
“Bathurst is going to be different this year. Brockie has always been there.”
FORD RACING REACTION TO THE DEATH OF PETER BROCK
| DICK
JOHNSON - THREE TIME BATHURST WINNER - FIVE TIME AUSTRALIAN TOURING CAR
CHAMPION "It's an absolute tragedy," said Johnson. "Peter was a tremendous competitor on the track, tough but always fair, and a decent bloke off it. I don't think it's really hit me yet. "I can't believe we've lost two Aussie icons in one week. Both Peter and Steve Irwin were both friends of mine. Dick Johnson is the team owner of Dick Johnson Racing. He will have two Ford Falcons competing at the Bathurst 1000 on October 8.
"I am devastated," said Lowndes. "Peter was more than just a teammate to me; he was a mentor and a friend. "He taught me an enormous amount about racing and about life. "It's a terrible loss. I can't believe it." Craig Lowndes drives for Team Betta Electrical in the V8 Supercar Championship Series. He is the current championship leader and has won three rounds in 2006.
"A very sad day not just for motor racing but also Australia," said Seton. "Peter really made car racing what it is today. He was professional years ahead of anyone else and his record in the championship and Bathurst clearly shows that. "He was an icon. To have a week where both Peter and Steve Irwin have left us is a massive blow to Australia. "Peter was one of the toughest racers on the track. However, away from the track he was a great bloke. He was always generous in his support for other drivers. For me he was always a great helping hand and it's those attributes that I will remember the most." Glenn Seton will drive at the Bathurst 1000 on October 8 as part of the Jeld-Wen Motorsport team.

FORD PERFORMANCE RACING REACTION TO THE DEATH OF PETER BROCK
Ford
Performance Racing Media Statement
All at Ford Performance Racing (FPR) wish to send their sincerest condolences to
the family and many friends and fans of Australian motor racing legend Peter
Brock following the sad news of his passing today.
In response to the many media requests for comments from FPR V8 Supercar drivers
Jason Bright and Mark Winterbottom, please find the following:
Jason Bright - " I am deeply shocked. I enjoyed a great relationship with Peter
Brock and there isn't a racing driver here who is not aware of the major impact
and contribution that he has made to our sport. His record behind the wheel and
his constant interaction with the fans has helped to grow this sport enormously.
His loss is unbelievable."
Mark Winterbottom - " Peter Brock was a childhood hero of mine, as I am sure he
was for many young and aspiring racing drivers. It is sad to lose anyone - let
alone a legend in the sport like he was. His loss will be deeply felt by
everyone involved in motor racing."
WPS REACTION TO THE DEATH OF PETER BROCK
WPS SADDENED BY THE LOSS OF AUSTRALIAN MOTOR RACING ICON
WPS Racing has been saddened by the news of the untimely death of Australian
racing icon Peter Brock.
Brock played an integral part in the early years of team driver Jason
Bargwanna’s career.
Bargwanna celebrated his tenth year in V8 Supercars last weekend at Sandown in
Melbourne. During his first year of V8 competition in 1997, the Melbourne based
driver turned out with the Holden Young Lions outfit, where he was continually
mentored in the art of competitive driving by Brock. The ongoing, valuable
advice received assisted Bargwanna to marshal his way through his formative
years in Australia’s leading motorsport category.
“Peter played a significant role in the beginning of my career, offering some
great advice when I was trying to break into V8 Supercars,” said Bargwanna.
“Peter played a mentor role for several years during the late 90s and I’m
extremely grateful for everything which he assisted me with during my career.
“When things were tough he always had an attitude to look on the brighter side
and had zest for life that I don’t think will ever be seen again.
“His record behind the wheel speaks for itself with so many wins at Bathurst and
three touring car championships, but unfortunately this is a reminder of how
dangerous our sport is.
“I can’t remember going to a Bathurst race without seeing Peter, whether as a
spectator or a driver. The place just won’t be the same anymore.”
Former Bathurst polesitter, and now WPS Racing team principal, Mark Larkham was
another of young driver Brock helped through the infancy of his career.
“Like many young drivers, Peter took the time out with me when I was looking to
get a start in my career,” said Larkham.
“After I won the Australian Formula Ford Championship he personally helped me
try and further my career overseas and also gave me a break in his Mobil Sierra
in 1989, an opportunity I’ll always be grateful for.
“Peter has been the face of Australian motorsport for more than three decades.
Whilst we are all deeply saddened by his passing, his impact and stature as the
Australian motor sport icon I believe will remain unchallenged.”

DICK JOHNSON'S REACTION TO THE DEATH OF PETER BROCK
| DICK JOHNSON TRIBUTE TO PETER BROCK |
|
Like everyone, I am devastated by today's news.
Peter was an icon of our sport and of Australian sport generally, and he was the benchmark by whom we all measured our success as racing drivers.
On the track he was as tough as they come but he was always fair, I loved racing him and enjoyed beating him even more. But afterwards we'd always share a laugh, whoever won.
Off the track he was a decent bloke, and a guy who contributed enormously to the success of our sport.
He was at a time in his life when he has been competing simply for the fun of it, it's a tragedy.

RUSSELL INGALL'S REACTION TO THE DEATH OF PETER BROCK
RUSSELL INGALL'S TRIBUTE TO PETER BROCK
The Following is a statement from reigning V8 Supercar champion Russell Ingall
on today's tragic death of Auastralian motorsport legend Peter Brock.
“The word legend is used too commonly in today’s society, but it was justified
in the case of Peter Brock,” said Ingall.
“Peter Brock is the reason that probably half of the V8 Supercar field are in
motor racing, including myself.
“He was the complete package on and off the track and to loose him in such
circumstances is a tragedy.
“He will never be replaced and I doubt anyone will ever come close to winning
nine Bathurst 1000s again.
“I still have a poster signed by him with his traditional “Live Life” moto. I
wonder how many of us will now have a think about what that really means.
“The condolences of myself, Julia and everyone at Caltex Racing go to Peter’s
family, friends and fans.”
HOLDEN RACING TEAM'S REACTION TO THE DEATH OF PETER BROCK
Holden Racing Team mourns the passing of a true Australian sporting hero Peter Brock
THE Holden Racing Team is saddened and shocked by the death of former driver and nine time Bathurst champion Peter Brock.
The 61yearold was synonymous driving for the works Holden team, firstly the famous Holden Dealer Team and then for HRT in a span from 1994 to 1997.
Brock had his last drive in the famous Bathurst 1000 with HRT in 2004.
Holden Racing Team staff and management are extremely saddened by the tragic accident in Perth that claimed Brock’s life.
Five time Bathurst winner Mark Skaife shared his memories of the childhood hero that he would line up alongside and later co drive with.
“I remember the very first touring car race I had and I lined up alongside him on the grid,” said Skaife today.
“When I looked across and saw that I was on the grid next to Peter Brock, I knew I had made it. “I was fortunate to race with and against him and learnt an immense amount from his approach to motorsport.
“He was the guy that all young guys aimed at emulating. “Peter always made time for his fans and understood how important it was to spend time with them and what they meant to our industry.
“At his best, Brock was the ultimate racing driver. A classic example was Bathurst in 1979 when he won by six laps and broke the lap record on the last lap. “P. Brock’s ethos was to get out there and have a red hot go. He lived his life like that. Brocky was Australia’s motorsport icon and the legendary ambassador for our sport.”
Former Holden Young Lion and HRT driver for the last three and a half years, Todd Kelly, was stunned by the news.
"I just can't believe it,” Kelly, who shared victory in the 2003 Bathurst 24 Hour with Brock – his last major victory – said. “We shared a lot of things over the last few years and I remember meeting him when I was a kid. He had such a big impact on me when I was a part of the Holden Young Lions program in 1997 when he was still racing.
“He gave me so much help in all aspects when I was young and impressionable. All he ever wanted to do was to help. When I was trying to raise money for my racing in the early years in Mildura, he and Greg Murphy came and helped raise funds.
"At Bathurst in 1997 I was the right wheel changer on his Commodore for what was going to be his last Bathurst. I was more nervous changing that wheel than I've ever been in a race car! "He had a huge impact on my life and was an incredible mentor. You just can't buy that sort of advice, especially from someone like Peter Brock."
MARCOS AMBROSE
'S REACTION TO THE DEATH OF PETER BROCKMARCOS AMBROSE COMMENT ON PETER BROCK
The following is a comment from Australian NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver
and former Australian V8 Supercar Champion Marcos Ambrose on the tragic death of
Australian touring car driver Peter Brock.
"I was contacted in the middle of the night and just could not believe it," said
Ambrose, who now resides in Charlotte, North Carolina.
"First of all, our condolences go to Peter's family, friends and all those
people who developed a relationship with him over his 40-odd years of racing.
"I remember coming to the US for the first time and seeing Peter Brock on a TV
commercial and thinking, hang on, this guy is a legend everywhere.
"There are just so many tributes that I have read on line this morning and they
are all fitting.
"There simply will never be another Peter Brock and I think that is the reason
that the entire motorsport community is suffering - and will suffer for sometime
to come.
"I think it is a time for reflection for all of us. That will not necessarily
make us better racers, but maybe it will make us better people and maybe that's
exactly what Peter would have wanted."
GREG MURPHY & JASON RICHARD REACTION TO THE DEATH OF PETER BROCK
GREG MURPHY
I'm absolutely shattered. Peter was my childhood hero. I always had the number
'05' on my go karts when I was a kid. The 1984 Bathurst race that he
won in the day-glow HDT Commodore was what got me hooked on motorsport when I
was young.
"To then go on and be team-mates with Peter was a dream come true for me.
The Bathurst 24 Hour victory that I shared with him, his last major win, in
2003, is one of the highlights of my life.
"It was already a sad week for Australia with the death of Steve Irwin but this
just makes it even worse."
JASON RICHARDS
"He was one of the gentlemen of Australian motorsport and sport in general in
Australasia. He was just as big in New Zealand as he was in Australia.
"He always used to write 'follow your dreams' on his autographs and that was
something I picked up from him. I've learnt that from him in order to become
a more complete racing driver and his on-track achievements are something only a
man could wish for.
"With Bathurst around the corner, Peter will be sadly missed. It just won't be
Bathurst without Brock."
