2002 - Baz, Barry was the voice behind the V8 Supercar Series. Baz will be missed by many in motorsport and audiences around the world.

ANOTHER ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS IS GONE, FIRST GREGG HANSFORD, NOW THE MASTER OF THE ONE LINERS, BARRY SHEENE. I SUPPOSE NOW THERE IS A PRETTY PHENOMINAL RACE TEAM UP THERE PAST THE WHITE PEARLY GATES. WITH JUAN FANGIO, RONNIE PETERSON, ARYTON SENNA, GREGG HANSFORD AND NOW BARRY PLUS ALL OTHER GREATS THAT I HAVE LEFT OUT. THEY WOULD BE UNBEATABLE IN TODAYS RACING.

I WONDER IF DICK JOHNSON EVER DID GET THOSE SOCKS IN THAT SHELL COMMERCIAL. THAT ONE MOMENT ALWAYS STICKS IN MY MEMORY, A CLASSIC....

LONG LIVE THE MEMORY OF BARRY SHEENE

As a past member for communications at Pukekohe racing circuit, I have always appreciated Barry's ability to make motor racing an interesting viewing pleasure for all New Zealanders who love the sport, and he will be sadly missed by so many.

To the family and friends of Barry Sheene I say "God only takes the best" and boy he got the best bloke in the world. I  met the man here on Phillip Island where I live and was treated like a person he has known for years. May his memory live forever in all forms of motorsport.

Our V8 circuit will be very much the poorer without Barry in person on pit lane or in the commentary box.

However his smiling, happy face and witty comments will live with us forever and  not be forgotten.

We also have a photograph of Barry together with Tony Longhurst (both legends in Australian V8 & touring car history) above the telly which we can look up at during each race to remember Barry and his input to the world of Motor Racing.

On our bar wall at home I have two pictures of Barry Sheene winning an International event in both 500cc and 750cc, along with Wayne Gardner posters. My father and I have been followers of Barry and will miss his voice and personality. You'll still remain the best motorcyclist in history in our home.

Sadly we say "So long mate" to one of Britains greatest Motorsport Heroes Mr. Barry Sheene. Barry, who made the move with his family to Australia, gave us all that familiar voice of motorsport on Australian TV as he commentated at the V8 Supercar Series events. In the past he thrilled us with his motorcycling achievements and more recent, his direct and uncanny way of making his point heard when commentating on channel Ten. The motorsport world will always remember the man known as Baz.
